The Clinical Effects of Amineptine Hydrochloride in the Treatment of Depression




Abstract
To evaluate the clinical effects of amineptine hydrochloride, authors applied modified Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression on 18 cases of major depression and dysthymic patients and appraised change of depressive symptoms and side effects during 6 weeks of treatment with amineptine hydrochloride.
The results are follows.
1. After 2 weeks of treatment, antidepressive effect of amineptine hydrochloride was significant of the items of depressed mood, loss of interest, psychomotor ret ardation, sleep difficulties, and bodily complaints. After 4 weeks of treatment, a 11 items except anxiety were significantly improved. After 6 weeks of treatment, all items were significantly improved.
2. After 2,4, and 6 weeks of treatment, total scores of modified HRSD were significantly reduced than baseline total score.
3. Side effects, such as nausea palpitation flushing, appeared in 6 cases but they were not severe enough to discontinue the medication.
